Zug, November 2024 – Klepsydra Technologies is proud to announce the successful in-orbit demonstration of its cutting-edge AI inference engine on a Spire Global satellite. Conducted on the night of October 31, 2024, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and Spire Global, this milestone showcases the exceptional performance and innovative design of Klepsydra AI within the Automatic Identification System (AIS) domain.

Spire Global’s AIS service utilizes its constellation of multipurpose nanosatellites and terrestrial receivers to deliver detailed, high-frequency vessel tracking across even the most remote ocean regions. The data supports real-time insights critical for maritime traffic management, route optimization, port arrival accuracy, and operational efficiency. Its Enhanced Satellite AIS data is accessible through flexible APIs, making it invaluable to industries such as logistics, fleet management, and maritime security.

The Klepsydra AI inference engine is built on an advanced data pipelining framework that employs a lightweight, open architecture with a highly sophisticated lock-free ring buffer. This approach enables seamless integration of mathematical backends for AI inference, allowing applications to adapt to various computational environments. While previous iterations of Klepsydra AI operated primarily on CPUs, this demonstration highlights a significant leap forward: extending its functionality to GPUs for enhanced AI inference capabilities.

The GPU-enabled Klepsydra AI framework employs CUDA APIs to achieve optimized GPU parallelism while leveraging Klepsydra’s Event Loop algorithm for efficient CPU orchestration and memory management. This novel approach doubles data processing rates, maximizes GPU utilization, and ensures low-latency performance. These advancements were validated during the in-orbit demonstration aboard a Spire satellite, demonstrating the system’s reliability and readiness for real-world, space-based applications.

Key highlights of the in-orbit demonstration include:
– Exceptional Performance: Achieved high-efficiency processing with minimal resource consumption.
– Compact Footprint: With a size of just 4 MB, Klepsydra AI is lightweight enough to be seamlessly uploaded and executed onboard.
– Scalable Architecture: Validated its capability to handle real-time processing demands in a space environment.

This successful demonstration solidifies Klepsydra AI’s position as a game-changer in on-board artificial intelligence, opening the door to more advanced and efficient space-based applications.
